This is a recording of the unveiling of the IEEE Engineering Milestone for The Mother of All Demos, honoring the work of Douglas Engelbart and his colleagues from the Stanford Research Institute (SRI). Alan Kay, SRI veterans and IEEE representatives gave insightful talks. IEEE Milestone Plaque Unveiling 3/19/2017 Demonstration of Online Systems and Personal Computing, 1968, commonly termed the "Mother of All Demos." "Douglas Engelbart and his team demonstrated their oNLine System (NLS) at Brooks Hall in San Francisco on 9 December 1968. Connected via microwave link to the host computer and other remote users at SRI in Menlo Park, the demonstration showcased many fundamental technologies that would become ubiquitous, including collaborative online editing, hypertext, video conferencing, word processing, spell checking, revision control, and the mouse."... ... (Computer History Museum, Mountain View, 6:45 PM) (Details) The unveiling was held at the end of the SIGSIS conference in the lobby and courtyard of the Computer History Museum. Speakers include John Hollar, CEO and President Computer History Museum, Marc Weber, Curatorial Director of the CHM Internet History Program, Kathleen Kramer, IEEE Region 6 Director, 2017, and members of the management and technical staff at Stanford Research Institute (SRI). They herald this outstanding achievement and some history of the demo with a focus on its pioneering milestones in software. The plaque will be later be installed at SRI where Doug Engelbart and his team did the original work; a copy will be installed at CHM. A plan is in process to put an additional plaque in Brooks Hall in San Francisco in 2018, the 50th anniversary.
