Daniele Torsello
I am a Solid State Scientist currently working as a Research Fellow in the "Superconductivity and Magnetism - Material Engineering by Swift Heavy ions" group at the Department of Applied Science and Technology of the Politecnico di Torino. I have a mixed background as Material Scientist (B.Sc.) and Theoretical Physicist (M.Sc.). My research is focused on the characterization
of the electromagnetic properties of novel superconductors and their response to structural disorder. I work both on the estimate of radiation effects via Monte Carlo simulations and on their experimental investigation, introducing defects in the samples by ion and neutron irradiation. The aim of such studies is threefold: understanding the fundamental mechanisms of superconductivity in novel materials, optimizing vortex pinning to reduce losses, and investigating the radiation hardness of materials designed for applications in radiation-harsh conditions.
In a secondary line of research I also work on the characterization of dielectric and magnetic properties of composite materials up to high frequencies.
