Hear Medevac Flight Crew member, Winnie Romeril, talk about humanitarian response in various locations.  She will share her drive to serve in response to disasters around the world and behind the scenes of Air Medical Evacuation from Rural and Remote Contexts.

Speaker:  Winnie Romeril

Winnie Romeril is a flight paramedic in the US Virgin Islands, where getting a critically ill or injured patient to a hospital capable of providing advanced, life-saving services may take hours or even days. She has delivered critical medical care in such rural & remote environments for nearly 30 years. When not in the air, she responds to catastrophic disasters and epidemics as a bilingual crisis spokesperson (English/Spanish), with travel to over 40 countries. Recent assignments include treating Covid-19 patients on the Navajo Nation when local resources were overwhelmed, mentoring local staff on Haiti Air Ambulance, and serving as World Health Organization spokesperson in Sierra Leone at the height of the 2014-15 Ebola outbreak. She conducts hands-on training in wilderness and austere medicine, among other topics, and dives whenever she can to explore the beauty of our oceans. At home in Upstate NY, Winnie enjoys foraging for wild mushrooms with her husband, Dave, or watching their border collies herd sheep.
