North Carolina Emergency Management - Communications | October 2023

An overview of the ICS, NCEM Structure, the role of ESF2 (Communications), how deployments work at state level, partnerships up and down, our MOVE relationship with NCEM and the role of MOVE.

Speaker:  Greg Hauser

Greg Hauser joined the North Carolina Division of Emergency Management (NCEM) on April 9th, 2018, to serve as the state’s Statewide Interoperability Coordinator (SWIC).  Greg is also the state’s Communications Branch Manager and is the point person for Emergency Support Function (ESF) 2 activities, alerts and warnings and tactical communications team training, readiness, and mobilization.  Prior to joining NCEM, Greg spent 17 years as a telecommunicator for the Charlotte Fire Department.  Greg worked his way up the ranks to serve as the Superintendent of the Communications Division.  Greg currently serves as the executive director of the North Carolina SIEC, which is the body that provides guidance on interoperability to the North Carolina State Emergency Response Commission. 

Throughout his career Greg has been a part of numerous large-scale incidents and events, including the Communications Unit Leader (COML) assignments for the 2012 Democratic National Convention, Hurricane Irene, and Hurricane Matthew.  Most recently Greg has filled the role of Communications Coordinator (COMC) for Hurricanes Florence, Dorian and Isaias and served as an advisor to the COML for the 2020 Republican National Convention (RNC) held in Charlotte.  

Greg is originally from Becket, Massachusetts and attended the University of New Haven (CT) where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Fire Investigation and Fire Administration.  Greg and his wife Meghan have been married for 16 years and live in Durham, NC.
