Gretchen Winter

Biography

Gretchen A. Winter, J.D. is Executive Director of the Center for Professional Responsibility in Business and Society and Clinical Assistant Professor of Business Administration in the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She helped develop and taught Business 101: An Introduction to Professional
Responsibility, a class that builds ethical decision-making habits for all incoming students in Gies, and now teaches an elective course that delves more deeply into professional responsibility and ethical dilemmas students are likely to face in business settings.
Ms. Winter also teaches in the University of Illinois College of Law and the Grainger College of Engineering City Scholars Program, the CY Cergy Paris Universite School of Law, and in corporate legal, ethics, and compliance educational programs. She's also been a keynote speaker for corporate audiences.
Ms. Winter is a past chair of the Executive Board of the Association of Practical and Professional Ethics, currently chairs the APPE Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl Committee, and still serves on the APPE Board.
Before joining the University, she worked at Baxter International Inc. in a variety of roles, including more than a decade as the chief ethics/compliance officer. Ms. Winter also practiced law with a firm and worked for the State of Illinois General Assembly.
Ms. Winter received her J.D. from the University of Chicago and her B.A. from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She has served on numerous not- for-profit boards of directors as well as on various statewide higher education boards of trustees.
