Tom Conte holds a joint appointment in the Schools of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He received his bachelors degree in EE from the University of Delaware in 1986; and, he received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in EE from the University of Illinois at Ubana-Champaign in 1988 and 1992, respectively.

Dr. Conte's research is in the areas of computer architecture and compiler optimization, including manycore architectures, microprocessor architectures, back-end compiler code generation, architectural performance evaluation and embedded computer system architectures. He is the 2014 President-Elect and will serve as the 2015 President of the IEEE Computer Society. Prior to this, he served as IEEE Computer Society's Vice President for Publications (2011-2013), IEEE Computer Society Awards Committee (2008-2011), chair of the ACM Special Interest Group on Microarchitecture (2004–2006), and chair of the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Microprogramming and Microarchitecture (1998–2006). Conte is also a Fellow of the IEEE. He is the editor in chief of ACM Transactions on Architecture and Compiler Optimization, and was the editor in chief of the Journal of Instruction-Level Parallelism from 1997-2001 and 2002-2005. He is an associate editor of IEEE Transactions on Computers, and the IEEE Computer and IEEE Micro magazines.
